I am pretty much finished with the fall semester. I only have my media center hours for my assistantship to complete and I am done! One more semester of graduate school left.
I had my final committee meeting of the semester last Friday. To summarize, I am in a good place, I just have to keep working and not worry about the written portion of the thesis just yet. That's my plan for the holidays. I'm not planning on doing anything put painting portraits. I do have some decisions to make about my show though, mainly when it comes to presentation. My committee seems to think that I need to have something to contextualize the piece, like actually putting my journals on pedestals with the piece or having some sort of interactive component to get the viewers engaged in the concept.
As for my weavings, I decided to just have the accordion style book piece woven. It is the piece that I am most invested in. I wish that I could have all of them woven, but I just can't afford that. Maybe one day.
I've been keeping a secret for the past couple of weeks now:
I applied for a job with Marvel Entertainment in NYC. Yes, I know that I have a scholarship that says I am supposed to teach in NC for 4 years, but as some of you know, I have been really struggling with my imminent future lately.
It's not that I don't enjoy teaching, but the state of education in NC has become very politicized and uncertain recently. I'm not ruling out that career path, but I have always entertained the idea of going in to some sort of industry and practicing my art on the side. So I found a Product Development Manager job that I am very interested in and decided to do something for myself and apply.
I kept this a secret from most everyone because there are a lot of people in my life that would try and talk me out of it, but I'm just too excited about the prospect to keep it hidden anymore.
I applied mid-November and haven't heard anything one way or the other yet. The job has been removed from the Disney website. Now whether this means the position was filled or that they are now reviewing applications, I do not know, but
